With some time off work, I thought why not climb An Socach at Mullardoch

This was a bad idea: very early start, long drive, big cycle, and walk and I didn't get to the top.  Then all the way back!

The cycle in, not too bad.

Loch na Leitreach, nearly there.  Is that my hill in front - no such luck.

Plenty of company.

Passing Iron Lodge.  Track up to Mullach na Dheiragain on the left.

Back down Glen Elgaig.  Green view from the Mullach walk linked on the left

Track winds round the side of the hill ahead.  Still no sign of the hill.

A bluer view back down the way

Finally catch sight of my target, at the back on the right, from the top of the climb up from Iron Lodge.

And another, with a big herd of deer on the right

What a day.  Loch Mhoicean and my hill rising above it.  But time was pressing on, and the snow getting deeper.

Aonach Buidhe and An Creachal Beag - the Yellow Hill?

Looking North towards the Loch Monar hills

Finally reached the Meall Shuas ridge.  Translation seems to be the Lump Above!  Anway from there I could see across Loch Mullardoch to Mullach na Dheiragain on the right and Beinn Fhionnlaidh to the left?

Weather threatens, but actually held off.

This was as close as I got - An Socath remains unconquered for now.  It was after 1.30pm, and I was struggling to make headway in the deep snow, so time to retreat.

Quick glimpse of Loch Mullardoch itself, and Beinn Fhionnlaidh I think.

To the West - Carn na Breabaig and to her right my route back

Final look at the shoulder that I did manage, but An Socach has disappeared already.

Not much of a track back.

Proof I was there

Down Glen Elchaig, as far as Loch na Leitreach.  Still a long way to go.
